5 Ways to Use a Pressure Washer This Summer

Pressure washers are an interesting invention. They use a high-pressure stream of water to clean surfaces. This is a great alternative to using harsh chemicals or scrubbing by hand. Pressure washers can be used for many purposes, both commercial and residential. If you're looking to rent a pressure washer for your home, read on for some tips on how to use it.

1. Cleaning Exterior Walls

Pressure washers are great for cleaning the exterior walls of your home. If you have siding, stucco, or brick, a pressure washer can help remove dirt, grime, and mildew. Just be careful not to get too close to the surface or you may damage it.

To use a pressure washer on your home's exterior, start by attaching the proper nozzle. Then, hold the wand at a 45-degree angle and start washing from the bottom up. Move the wand side to side as you work your way up the wall.

2. Stripping Paint

If you're planning on painting your home, you'll need to strip the old paint first. A pressure washer can help with this. Be sure to use a low setting and keep the nozzle at least 12 inches from the surface.

To use a pressure washer to strip paint, you'll need:

  • Pressure washer

  • Paint stripper

  • Scraper

  • Safety goggles

  • Protective clothing

3. Cleaning Wood Decks

If you have a wood deck, you know how difficult it is to keep it clean. Pressure washers can make this task much easier. Be sure to use a low setting and hold the nozzle at least 12 inches from the surface.

To use a pressure washer on your wood deck:

  • Wet the entire surface of the deck with a garden hose.

  • Set the pressure washer to a low setting and hold the nozzle 12 inches from the surface of the deck.

  • Move the nozzle in a sweeping motion across the entire surface of the deck.

  • Rinse the deck with a garden hose when you're finished.

4. Cleaning a Lawn Mower Undercarriage or Other Farm Equipment

If you have a lawn mower or other farm equipment, it's important to keep the undercarriage clean. Pressure washers can make this task much easier. Be sure to use a low setting and hold the nozzle about a foot away from the surface to avoid damaging the equipment.

5. Cleaning Outdoor Furniture, Grills, and/or Trash Bins

Outdoor furniture, grills, and trash bins can get pretty dirty over the course of a summer. A pressure washer can make quick work of cleaning them. Just be sure to use a low setting and hold the nozzle a few feet away from the surface to avoid damaging the furniture or grill.

The Bottom Line

Pressure washers can be a great tool for cleaning your home, deck, lawn mower, and more this summer. Be sure to use a low setting and hold the nozzle a few feet away from the surface to avoid damaging the furniture or grill.
